Retire Well Mundus — Book Brief
DESIGNING LIFE BEYOND WORK IN A CHANGING WORLD
EXPLORE
Retirement is not simply the point at which work ends.
It can be a major life transition involving changes in identity, purpose, relationships, daily structure, wellbeing, place, contribution and the way we imagine the years ahead.
Retire Well Mundus approaches retirement from an international whole-life perspective.
People experience later-life transitions in very different circumstances. Culture, family, work history, resources, health, community, mobility and place can all influence both the possibilities and the challenges of life beyond work.
The central invitation is therefore broader than asking:
“Am I ready to stop working?”
It also asks:
“How do I want to live, contribute and continue developing in the years ahead?”
CONSIDER
Retirement readiness is broader than financial readiness.
Financial circumstances matter, but they are only one part of preparing for life beyond work. Purpose, relationships, wellbeing, environment, identity and daily life also deserve attention.
There is no universal retirement experience.
Different countries, cultures, families and personal circumstances create different possibilities, expectations and responsibilities. A life beyond work needs to make sense within the realities of the individual life being lived.
Later life can remain a period of agency and stewardship.
Experience accumulated over a lifetime can continue to shape relationships, communities, learning, contribution and the legacy we leave through the ways we live and influence others.
REFLECT
Think about the life you would like to create beyond full-time work.
• What would give structure and meaning to my days if work no longer organised them?
• Which relationships, places, activities and forms of contribution would I want to remain central to my life?
• What would I like to carry forward, and what might I be ready to change or leave behind?
You do not need to know exactly what the future will look like.
The invitation is to consider retirement not merely as an ending, but as another stage of life that can be approached consciously and designed with intention.
